{5 best + cute hairstyles for running}

I have a ton of hair… like… A TON of hair. There’s nothing worse than going for a run (or doing any workout, for that matter) with that hair whipping around my face, getting stuck in my eyelashes or mouth, and having it look like I stood outside during a hurricane for fun.

I normally go for simple hairdos to keep my mane under control, but sometimes I like to look a little nicer than my usual huge, messy bun. More importantly, when I run outside I make sure my hair is creep-proof.

What does creep-proof mean?

It means that my hair isn’t an easy handle for a creep to grab onto like a handle (more about that, and other female runner safety info here). Think about it: you have that cute, braided pony just swinging around behind you… it’s really easy for an attacker to grab it and pull you down. I don’t mean to alarm you, but I think as female runners, we need to take steps to make sure we’re safe when we’re out there (especially this time of year, with limited daylight). So I like to keep my hair closer to my head, which would make it harder for someone to get a hold of.

So here are my top 5, tried and true, cute, creep-proof hairstyles for running in order of difficulty level (1=easiest, 5=hardest):

  1. Low bun

  2. High bun

  3. Jasmine ponytail

  4. French braid

  5. French-braided pigtails

    BONUS: You can pin the ends of the braids up to have a little braided crown/halo.

Which hairstyles do you like to rock for your run?
