Let me preface this post by admitting to something…
I am not a massive Disney fan.
There… I said it.
And yet I somehow convinced myself it would be a fabulous idea to run a 10K and half marathon through Disney parks… in the same weekend.
So Saturday morning was an early start. I set my alarm for 2:30am figuring I’d only need about 30min to get dressed, swing through the Pop Century cafeteria, and head over to the bus. Naturally, I was awake ten minutes before my alarm, so I started putting myself together while my travel companion continued sleeping.
Running only 10 minutes behind, eventually we hopped on the bus with all of the other excited princesses and headed to the start line for the Enchanted 10K.
I have this thing where I don’t get nervous before a race. I just don’t. I used to, but then I decided that excitement does me better than nerves. I must prefer this. 🙂
I have SO MANY PICTURES to share, so I’m going to share them in batches of slideshows. This first batch is everything from getting off the bus, to the first glimpse of Spaceship Earth, to posing for some pictures, to meeting with other NH friends, to getting in my corral and seeing other NH friends in the next corral over.
Batch 2 is all of the pictures of the start line, the mile markers, and any character stops I made… plus the only other Kevin costume I saw on the course! I also had to snap a picture with this woman who had a big taco hat on her head. All these weeks later, I finally figured out that her costume was “Taco Belle.” For real, guys, it took me THREE WEEKS to figure out that this woman was Taco Belle. HAH!
Next up are the Disney Photopass pictures (btw… buying Memory Maker was the best idea I’ve ever had). This includes my favorite finish line photo EVER.
I really liked that there was a photo stop in front of Spaceship Earth, and that they were blasting Van Halen’s Jump… SO FUN.
I forget how many water stops there were, but it was just enough. I brought water on the course with me, but I barely touched it.
Not many people recognized my costume. In fact, the first person to recognize my costume was the sweet Disney cast member who was taking pictures with runners’ phones at the fairy photo stop. She took my phone and said, “Good morning, Kevin!” and I lost my mind, I was thrilled that someone recognized me! I only saw one other Kevin on the course, waiting in line for port-a-potties (ick). We took a selfie… that was fun. 🙂 I bumped into the NH ladies from the next corral over out on the course and finished with them. It was so fun seeing familiar faces out there! Overall, I had such a great time at this race. The 10K distance is quickly becoming one of my favorites… I need more 10Ks in my life!
Hats off to runDisney for putting on such a well-organized, fun event!
Stay tuned for Part 3: Princess Half Marathon!
